I’m official. Just filled out the application for my NPC card and entered the Figure and Figure Masters divisions of the Adela Garcia Classic. Yahoo! Note: If you are part of the 99.9% of the human population and have no idea what I’m talking about, allow me to explain…
What is an NCP Card?
Want to enter an amateur bodybuilding competition? First, you will need to get your National Physique Committee (NPC) card. The cost is $100 and is good for the calendar year. Here is the link for the application: Get Your NPC Card. They will mail you your card in a few weeks. You can also usually purchase your card at the Athlete’s Meeting the day before your competition. Here is more info copied and pasted from their website:
“The National Physique Committee is the premier amateur physique organization in the world. Since 1982, the top athletes in bodybuilding, fitness, figure, bikini and physique have started their careers in the NPC. Many of those athletes graduated to successful careers in the IFBB Professional League, a list that includes 24 Olympia and 38 Arnold Classic winners.
NPC athletes are regularly featured in and on the covers of international publications such as FLEX, Muscular Development, Muscle & Fitness and Muscle & Fitness Hers, Fitness Rx for Women, Ironman and Musclemag International.”
This is what the application looks like:
I have to tell you, when I got my first NPC card last year, I felt pretty cool. Since the card is good for a calendar year I know a lot of bodybuilders who decide to do multiple shows in the same year, but obviously it depends on your fitness goals.

I’m doing the Adela Garcia Classic on June 22. (This was the same show I did last year, only this year I’m trying out the Figure Division.) If you would like to enter this competition, click here for the link: 2013 Adela Garcia Classic.
I’ll do a future post explaining the differences between the different divisions and photos so you can see which category suits your individual body type. If you are entering the competition – good luck and hope to see you at the show!
